A fuller feel for a committed short game.

The Discraft Prototype Roost is a deep-profile putt-and-approach disc with useful glide and an overstable finish. Its 2 / 5 / 0 / 2 flight numbers give you a slower option for controlled approaches and putting when you prefer more finishing stability than a neutral putter offers.

The mold began as the Ricky Wysocki Prototype Putter before becoming known as the Roost. This listing retains that prototype identity, rather than presenting it as the later First Run release.

Room in the hand, purpose in the flight

The Roost’s deeper profile offers a substantial feel in the hand. It is worth considering if shallow putters leave you wanting more rim to hold, especially for a deliberate putting grip or controlled approach release.

In flight, the mold leans overstable. Plan for forward carry followed by a defined finish, adjusting power and height to the shot. On shorter or slower throws, that fade may arrive sooner; on longer approaches, glide can help it travel before the finish takes over.

Where it fits in the bag

  • Controlled approaches: Use putter speed when placement matters more than reaching for a faster disc.
  • Hyzer lines: Build an arcing route around the disc’s finishing stability.
  • Putting: Try the fuller hand feel if it suits your routine and release.
  • Short tee shots: Explore a slower, stable option when the hole leaves room for a fading finish.

Picture an approach with an open route beside a guarding tree. Instead of forcing a neutral putter to finish harder, you choose an angle that works with the Roost’s stability. Leave room for the landing and possible ground play rather than expecting it to stop immediately.

Prototype roots, Roost identity

Developed originally with Ricky Wysocki, the mold continued its own path as the Roost after Ricky preferred the Focus for his putting needs. That history makes this a prototype with a clear connection to the Roost’s development, not a claim that it is Ricky’s current putting choice.

Choose it for the deeper profile and stable short-game role. Hand feel is personal, so compare that fuller grip with the putters you already know before making it your everyday putting mold.

Player fit

Players who prefer deep putters and a stronger finish can use it alongside a neutral approach disc. Developing players may find it most useful for specific fading shots while practicing straight approaches with a less stable option. Clean releases, wind, and throwing speed still determine the result.
